Mission statement
23and1 is a magazine, both online and in-print, that celebrates individual success after incarceration, along with highlighting those doing extraordinary things while still inside by giving them a voice through us. As an interactive online platform, we will uniquely also include physical mail for those still locked up. As our platform grows, we will be advancing educational opportunities, treatment help for those with addiction, promoting social awareness (to reduce bias and discrimination), and defending the rights of those violated by their institutions and reaching out on their behalf for help.
23and1 wants to lead a movement of redemption and change the narrative of how those who have been incarcerated are viewed today in society. We will lead the way, in not just reducing recidivism, but working towards getting people prearranged JOBS when they get out enrolment in CLASSES to reach their goals! This enablement will help them feed their families and KEEP PEOPLE OUT of prison! Most people do not want to commit crime, but desperate times…you know the rest. Imagine what our society will look like when those reentering society are PREPARED TO SUCCEED! We need to do this because our prisons and jails are not, hence shedding light on the major reform work that needs to be done within the Prison Industrial Complex. Welcome to 23and1.
Vision statement
23and1 is much more than a magazine! Over the course of the next year, we will have become a platform for individuals who are, or were, formerly incarcerated to have their voices heard! Within the next five years, that platform will expand to provide resources I’m the form of reentry programs, educational opportunities (for those free or incarcerated), employment, housing, getting involved with pr1son reform, changing the narrative, and much more, allowing those involved with the 23and1 community the ability to easily network with other like minded individuals who understand our esoteric struggles. There will also possibly be the additions of podcasting and event opportunities.
